next recipe>
Throw a home spa party for your friends: Sip piña coladas while pampering
each other with this rejuvenating tropical skin treatment.
Ingredients:
-
¼ cup crushed canned pineapple
-
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
-
2 teaspoons jojoba or extra virgin olive oil
-
1 package unflavored, unsweetened gelatin
-
2-3 drops coconut extract
Directions:
Puree pineapple together with corn syrup, oil and gelatin. Mix in a food
processor or blender. Spread a generous layer on face, avoiding eye area. Let
dry - should take 10-20 minutes. Rinse off, making sure to remove any excess
with a wet towel or facial tissue. Follow with green tea toner or your usual
skin care routine.
The enzyme, bromelain, in pineapple acts as an exfoliating agent, breaking down
the dead protein cells that can accumulate on the outer layer of the skin,
giving your complexion a dull, tired appearance. At the same time, bromelain's
anti-inflammatory properties help calm blotchy redness and speed healing.
Jojoba is very similar in structure to the skin's natural oils, allowing it to
sink down deep into the dermis to replenish lost moisture. The gelatin also
adds a moisturizing effect, while it's congealing action allows it to trap
surface dirt and clean away the debris created by bromelian's enzymatic
function.
