In one case, just one serving (1 cup) had 13 times as much enzymatic activity as the supplement.&nbsp;In other cases, tests revealed much lower levels of enzyme activity than claimed on the supplement bottles (well within their date of expiration).&nbsp;&nbsp; COLOR: black; FONT-FAMILY: Helv; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: Helv; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA"> </SPAN> though abdominal fat increased in weight by 25%. </FONT></P><P><FONT size="2">The surprise is not that inactivity leads to weight gain but how <EM>quickly</EM> the body goes into fat-producing mode.&nbsp;Given that most species evolved in the face of food scarcities and hostile predators, one might imagine how the ability to quickly "store up" on energy (in the form of fat) may once have constituted a Darwinian advantage.&nbsp;But in an age of labor-saving devices and calorie-excess, this mechanism is more of a health threat <SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; They found that just two days of physical inactivity impaired the body's use of insulin.  The less efficient your insulin is, the greater risk you have of diabetes, heart disease, obesity and hypertension," observed researcher David Kump of the University of Missouri-Columbia. </FONT></P><P><FONT size="2">Do these lab results apply to the "rat race" of real life?&nbsp;Research points in that direction. Human studies have shown increases in blood sugar and insulin after only five days of physical inactivity, but the animal results&nbsp;suggest that these changes may be taking place even earlier than previously believed.&nbsp;In new research presented to the American College of Sports Medicine, regular exercisers who took a week off exhibited signs of increased fatigue, while those who skipped a second week reported symptoms of depression.</FONT></P><P><FONT size="2">From "my hips to my lips" used to be my motto for avoiding temptation.&nbsp;Given the implications of short-term inactivity,&nbsp;I might add from "skips to hips" as well.&nbsp;That doesn't mean beating oneself up for missing the occasional workout <SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt;
